Prof Andrews F. Walls' Observations of ACI Source: ACI
During my recent visit to the Institute, I was greatly impressed by the way that it had not only recovered but progressed since the crushing blow it suffered two years ago in the loss of its great pioneer.
I saw evident stability under wise leadership, and noted an air of purposiveness among the teaching staff. It was clear that academic procedures were being carefully thought through and standards maintained; that innovative thinking was going on, and that there was a general sense of commitment to the needs of Africa. Most striking of all was the enthusiasm of the students and their identification with the Institute and its aims. I remain convinced that the Institute has the capacity to play an immense role in the development of Christian scholarship; not only in Ghana but in Africa as a whole; scholarship that takes full account of its African context, but with a relevance far beyond Africa. I remain eager to maintain my personal contribution to the Institute’s work as long as that is judged helpful.
