DEDICATION OF EVANS-ANFOM COLLECTION

On Thursday 22 October 2015 at 11.00am, the foyer of Johannes-Zimmerman Library was turned into a hive of thanksgiving and dedication when the family of Dr Emmanuel Evans-Anfom, past Board Chairman of Akrofi-Christaller Memorial Centre for Mission Research and Applied Theology, now Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture (ACI), presented a set of books to the Library. Dr Evans-Anfom, who is 96 years old and could not be present himself, was represented by his wife, Elise, and children, Emmanuel Nii Okai, Rachel, Nii Teiko and Charles Nii Armah.

The Rector, Dr Benhardt Y. Quarshie and Council Chairman, Dr Alex Glover-Quartey who both spoke at the function described the commitment and dedication of Dr Evans-Anfom in the difficult years of ACI, when the leadership had to battle out an aspect of its vision of ACI not only as an institution of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) but also as one committed to enhance mission and ministry for the wider Christian community. They appreciated his continued interest and commitment to the Institute since his retirement from the chairmanship over a decade ago.

The monetary value of the Evans-Anfom collection is GHC 10,000. It consists of books on a variety of subjects ranging from the esteemed Oxford Handbooks series to a variety of recent publications on Christianity and Religion. The Oxford Handbooks will augment the reference section of the Library and the others will go into general circulation.

Staff and students of ACI were also present in the library foyer, which was beautifully decorated with bunting of blue and white and the ICT team of ACI facilitated picture coverage as well as a slide show depicting shots of Dr Emmanuel Evans-Anfom on the occasion of his award of an honorary DD by ACI in 2013. The function was graced by the presence of the Presbytery Clerk of the Akuapem Presbytery of PCG, Rev Emmanuel Otu, who also prayed for the close of the ceremony just before 12noon.
